With the band’s tough-chick image and kick-ass talent, it wasn’t long before the group hit the jackpot and rose as one of the most popular girl bands of the 70′s. Under the influence of a rock impresario Kim Fowly, the band made a name for itself and not only the band, but the members as well. Joan Jett became the band’s pure rock’ n’ roll heart while Cherie Currie is the band’s sex kitten. Aside from the band’s outrageous success, Jett and Currie realizes that there are also problems to face along the path of fame and fortune.

The movie also shows the relationship between the two girls and how they manage everything when the band starts to break out. In a world dominated by men, one band stood out, gained fame and has undeniably marked the annals of the music industry by breaking the trend that bands exclusively revolve in a masculine world. With five gorgeous ladies who were all determined to steal the limelight, Joan Jett, Cherry Currie, Sandy West, Lita Ford and Jackie Fox were the names behind the all-female band that rocked the world, popularly known as the ‘Runaways’.

The Runaways traces its roots back in the year 1975 when Joan Jett (rhythm guitarist and Sandy West (drummer) met up with talent Manager Kim Fowley. The two were total stranger to each other at that time and though they presented themselves to Fowley individually, both expressed their idea of forming an all-girl group. An exchange of phone numbers, a few discussions and several rehearsals were what it took to officially launch a star potential. What was left to do was to look for 3 other girls to complete the band. Lita Ford was then added to the group, she was just sixteen back then but she was definitely an ace as the lead guitarist. Then came the sassy lead vocalist, Cherie Currie. After a few come and go scenario in their search for a bass player, Jackie Fox came in and The Runaways made history with their chart topping hits like “Cherry Bomb”, “Queens of Noise”, “Rock n Roll”, “Neon Angels (On the Road to Ruin)”, and “Born to Be Bad”.

Inspired by this band’s rise to fame and the countless challenges that they have surpassed along their stardom, Kristen Stewart(Joan Jett) and Dakota Fanning (Cherrie Curie) stars in a film that depicts the band’s dramatic existence.

“The Runaways” will be out in theaters this coming April 9.

Two of today’s hottest teen idols are filled with enthusiasm as they flaunt their ‘rock star’ images in their newest movie, The Runaways. Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stewart readily confessed that they are true blue fashionistas and that sporting their fabulous rock and roll attires gives them the best avenue in expressing their individual inkling for fashion.

In the movie, the two actresses portray the roles of two of the members of the real life all-girl rock band called The Runaways. Joan Jett (Kristen Stewart) and Cherie Curie (Dakota Fanning) are two of the famed members of the band that took the music industry by storm back in the early 70’s.

When asked how they did in playing their rock star characters on screen, Kristen  replied, “It looks great in the movie, but we are not close to the musicians that they are”.

Dakota on the other hand was crazy about all their rock star attire. “I loved the outfits, I kept most all of them,” Dakota said. “Cherie gave her corsets away and we had them remade for the movie, so I’m going to give her (Cherie) one and I think that will be really cool.”

Meanwhile, Kristen recalled that she too gave Joan Jett a leather jacket where she wrote all over the back of it.
