The story chronicles the life of a troubled teenage boy, Percy Jackson, who discovers that he is a demigod in the 21st century. His mother is a mortal named Sally Jackson, and his father is Posedion, the god of the sea. Throughout the series, he goes on several adventures to save his family and friends, and the gods of Olympus, while discovering his heritage, powers, and himself.

On the first adaptation, The Lightning Thief, he learns for the first time about his true identity about being a son of one of the Big Three (Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades). Zeus’ lightning bolt gets stolen and he is the prime suspect. He goes on a journey with his new-found friends to save his mother and to get back the stolen lightning bolt, and eventually stop a war between the gods.

Percy Jackson (Logan Lerman)- He is the main character and the protagonist in the story. He is a demigod, son of a mortal Sally Jackson, and the god of the sea Poseidon. He has ADHD and dyslexia. Because he is a son of Poseidon, he has the ability to control and manipulate water. He has hydrokinetic powers, which means that he is able to move water with the use of his mind. He can breathe underwater. He can also create small hurricanes around himself. He was given an enchanted sword called Anaklusmos (Riptide). It is made of celestial bronze, and turns into a pen when not in use. His primary love interest is Annabeth Chase. He has an empathy link with his best friend Grover, which means that if one dies, the other will probably die.

Grover Underwood (Brandon T. Jackson)- He is the best friend of Percy. he is a satyr, a mythical creature who is half-goat and half-human. Although he is already 32 years old, he is the equivalent of a 16-year old man because satyrs mature half as fast as humans. He can understand and talk to animals. He can also summon nature spirits and talk to them.

Annabeth Chase (Alexandra Daddario)- She is the other best friend of Percy and his growing love interest. she is a demigod, daughter of mortal Frederick Chase and Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom and war strategy. She is extremely intelligent, very knowledgeable in architecture, history and Greek mythology, and she is a master strategist. She uses a magical Yankee cap that turns her invisible. She also has weapons which includes double swords and hand crossbows.

Zeus (Sean Bean)- He is the god of the sky and lightning, and the ruler of Olympus. He suspects that it was Percy who stole his lightning bolt.

Poseidon (Kevin McKidd)- He is the god of the sea and earthquakes. He is the father of Percy.

Medusa (Uma Thurman)- She is a gorgon monster who lures people into Aunty Em’s Gnome Emporium and then turns them into statue by just looking at them. She is the daughter of Phorcys and Ceto.

Chiron (Pierce Brosnan)- He is a centaur, Half-human and half-horse, who is the activities director in Camp Half-Blood. He is the mentor of Percy, as well as the other demigods in the camp. He went undercover as a wheelchair-bound Latin teacher at Yancy Academy as Mr. Brunner. He is the son of Kronos, the Lord of the Titans.

Athena (Melina Kanakeredes)- She is the goddess of wisdom and battle. She is the daughter of Zeus and a Titan, Metis, and she is mother of Annabeth Chase. Because of her rivalry with Poseidon, she doesn’t like that her daughter is the love interest of Percy.

Luke Castellan (Jake Abel)- He is a demigod, son of May Castellan and Hermes, the Greek god of messengers travelers, and thieves. He is the counselor of cabin 11 and a friend of Percy, but later reveals his true self as a high-ranking official of Kronos’ army by attempting to kill Percy.

Silena Beauregard (Chelan Simmons)- She is the daughter of a demigod and Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty. She is the lead counselor and head of Cabin Ten.

Sally Jackson (Catherine Keener)- She is the mother of Percy Jackson. She was married to Gabe Ugliano so that monsters will stay away from her son.

Gabe Ugliano (Joe Pantoliano)- He is the abusive stepfather of Percy.

Hades (Steve Coogan)- He is the god of the Underworld. He is the son of the Titan Kronos and Rhea, known as the mother of gods and queen of the Titans. He is the husband of Persephone, goddess of springtime and the Underworld. Percy accused him of stealing Zeus’ lightning bolt.

Hermes (Dylan Neals)- He is the god of messengers, travelers, and thieves. He is the father of Luke Castellan, and a son of Zeus.

Hera (Erica Cerra)- She is the goddess of women and marriage. She is married to Zeus, and the Quuen of the goods. She is the daughter of Kronos.

Demeter (Stefanie von Pfetten)- She is the goddess of the Earth and Harvest. She is a daughter of Rhea and brother of Zeus.

Apollo (Dimitri Lekkos)- He is the god of the sun and archery. He is the twin brother of Artemis, the goddess of the Moon and hunt.

Ares (Ray Winstone)- He is the god of war and son of Zeus and Hera. He dislikes Percy.

Aphrodite (Serinda Swan)- She is the goddess of love and beauty.

Persephone (Rosario Dawson)- She is the goddess of springtime and the Underworld. She is the daughter of Zeus and Demeter, and wife of Hades.

The movie will follow the story of a 12-year old kid Percy Jackson, the protagonist in the story. He later discovers that he is a demigod, a son of a mortal mother Sally Jackson and the god of the sea, Poseidon. He is a troubled young kid who has been kicked out on every school he has attended. His latest is Yancy Academy in New York.

There he meets Grover Underwood who then befriends him. He did not know that Grover is a satyr, a mythical creature half -goat and half-human, because he goes undercover as a disabled student in order to discover if there are any half-bloods in their school. He has an empathy link with Percy, which means that if one of them dies, the other will probably die, too.

Grove discovered Percy as a half-blood, and then alerts the centaur Chiro, who poses as Percy’s Latin teacher Mr. Brunner. He used an enchanted wheelchair to hide his backside and used fake legs. Son of Kronos, he is the immortal teacher of the demigods.

During a field trip at the museum, he is called by their pre-algebra teacher, Mrs. Dodds, who then turns into Alecto, a Fury and attacks him. Alecto is the main servant of Hades, god of the underworld. Furies acts as the minions of the Hades.

Mr. Brunner then arrived during the fight and gave him a ballpoint pen, which has text on the side Anaklusmos. It transforms into a magical sword Riptide, which is made out of celestial bronze. He then manages to kill the Fury.

At home, her mother arrives and tells them that they can go to Montauk, his favorite beach, for the weekend. At the beach, he is shocked when he woke up in the middle of the in a storm and found Grover coming to him and his mom and tells them to leave. Her mother both took them into the car and left. But he then saw that they were being chased by a Minotaur, a creature with the head of a bull and a body of a man. In a surge of power, he manages to defeat the Minotaur, but not before the Minotaur grabbed her mother and disappears in a flash of light. Grover then took Percy to Camp Half-Blood where he was introduced to the other campers who were all demigods.

There, he meets Annabeth, a daughter of a mortal Frederick Chase and the goddess of wisdom and war strategy Athena. She is the leader of the Athena’s cabin. But unlike Athena, no one knows who Percy’s divine parent is. He learns that Mr. Brunner is a centaur and the camp’s activity director. He also learns that the director of the camp is Dionysus, the god of wine and sanity. He is very unpleasant and quite moody. He is also introduced to Luke, the leader of the Hermes cabin.

During the capture-the-flag game, he single-handedly defeated Clarisse, the leader of the Ares cabin, and three others when he learns that he is the son of Poseidon.

After learning that the Master Lightning Bolt of Zeus has been stolen and he is the prime suspect, he then embarks on a quest together with Grover and Annabeth to catch the true lightning thief, save his mother from the Underworld, and prevent a war between the gods.

The movie is directed by Christopher Columbus, who helmed first two Harry Potter movies. It stars Logan Lerman as Percy Jackson, Alexandra Daddario as Annabeth Chase, Brandon T. The movie is about the Homeric epic of the Iliad where the demi-god hero Perseus searches for his true origins. Zeus his real father is in constant threat of being dethroned by his brother the god of the underworld Hades. Perseus engages himself in an epic adventure of fighting demons, and other creature under the watchful eye of his father eagerly helping him in every step of the way. Reviews about this movie was raving, since this movie is a remake of the classic 1981 movie, slight changes in the plot made the movie more exciting and edge-of seat nail bitter. The 1981 movie was a star studded , with Sir Laurence Olivier, Claire Bloom and Dame Maggie Smith ( Prof. Mcgonagal in Harry Potter movies). The 2010 remakes has Sam Worthington. Liam Neilsen and Ralph Fiennes.

Story begins with the central figure Perseus son of a Zeus . But he grew up and raised raised human, Perseus (Sam Worthington) is helpless to save his family from Hades (Ralph Fiennes), vengeful god of the underworld or hell.

I have come across reading some reviews and most of them tells that the movie is another would be blockbuster like the past hero and epic movies like Troy or 300.One reviewer was confused by the screen play Jason and the Argonauts, a 1963 movie and ended up screwing the whole movie summary. Anyways, this flick will be released this coming first quarter of 2010, expectedly on March 26. Perseus is the favored son of the god Zeus, but he has unwittingly ticked off the sea goddess Thetis. Just to make things worse, Perseus falls in love with the lovely Princess Andromeda, who used to be engaged to Thetis’s son. Soon Perseus is off on one quest after another, with Zeus helping, Thetis hindering, and lots of adventures awaits his quests.

In the 2010 remake however, Perseus did not do battle to save Andromeda but he leads an army to defend his father Zeus who is under the attack of other struggling gods.

In literature the Titans were known as the older Gods. The Olympians were the younger gods , their sons and daughters who overthrew them.

The Titans were:

Gaea- Gaea is the Earth goddess. She mated with her son Uranus to produce the remaining Titans. Gaea seems to have started as a neolithic earth-mother worshipped before the Indo-European invasion that eventually lead to the Hellenistic civilization.

Uranus-Uranus is the sky god and first ruler. He is the son of Gaea , who created him without help. He then became the husband of Gaea and together they had many offspring, including twelve of the Titans.

His rule ended when when Cronus, encouraged by Gaea, castrated him. He either died from the wound or withdrew from earth

Cronus-Cronus was the ruling Titan who came to power by castrating his Father Uranus. His wife was Rhea. There offspring were the first of the Olympians. To insure his safety Cronus ate each of the children as they were born. This worked until Rhea, unhappy at the loss of her children, tricked Cronus into swallowing a rock, instead of Zeus. When he grew up Zeus would revolt against Cronus and the other Titans, defeat them, and banish them to Tartarus in the underworld.

Cronus managed to escape to Italy, where he ruled as Saturn. The period of his rule was said to be a golden age on earth, honored by the Saturnalia feast.

Rhea- Rhea was the wife of Cronus. Cronus made it a practice to swallow their children. To avoid this, Rhea tricked Cronus into swallowing a rock, saving her son Zeus.

Oceanus-Oceanus is the unending stream of water encircling the world. Together with his wife Tethys produced the rivers and the three thousand ocean nymphs.

Tethys-Tethys is the wife of Oceanus. Together they produced the rivers and the three thousand ocean nymphs.

Hyperion-Hyperion is the Titan of light, an early sun god. He is the son of Gaea and Uranus. He married his sister Theia. Their children Helius (the sun), Selene (the moon), and Eos (the dawn).

Mnemosyne-Mnemosyne was the Titan of memory and the mother of Muses.

Themis-Themis was the Titan of justice and order. She was the mother of the Fates and the Seasons.

Iapetus- Iapetus was the father of Prometheus, Epimetheus, Menoetius, and Atlas by Clymene.

Coeus-Titan of Intelligence. Father of Leto.

Phoebe-Titan of the Moon. Mother of Leto.

Prometheus-Prometheus was the wisest Titan. His name means “forethought” and he was able to foretell the future. He was the son of Iapetus . When Zeus revolted against Cronus Prometheus deserted the other Titans and fought on Zeus side.

By some accounts he and his brother Epimetheus were delegated by Zeus to create man. In all accounts, Prometheus is known as the protector and benefactor of man. He gave mankind a number of gifts including fire. He also tricked Zeus into allowing man to keep the best part of the animals sacrificed to the gods and to give the gods the worst parts.

For this Zeus punished Prometheus by having him chained to a rock with an eagle tearing at his liver. He was to be left there for all eternity or until he agreed to disclose to Zeus which of Zeus children would try to replace him. He was eventually rescued by Heracles without giving in to Zeus.

Epimetheus-Epimetheus was a stupid Titan, whose name means “afterthought”. He was the son of Iapetus. In some accounts he is delegated, along with his brother Prometheus by Zeus to create mankind. He also accepted the gift of Pandora from Zeus, which lead to the introduction of evil into the world.

Atlas-Atlas was the son of Iapetus. Unlike his brothers Prometheus and Epimetheus, Atlas fought with the other Titans supporting Cronus against Zeus. Due to Cronus’s advance age Atlas lead the Titan’s in battle. As a result he was singled out by Zeus for a special punishment and made to hold up the world on his back.

Metis-Metis was the Titaness of the forth day and the planet Mercury. She presided over all wisdom and knowledge. She was seduced by Zeus and became pregnant with Athena. Zeus became concerned over prophecies that her second child would replace Zeus. To avoid this Zeus ate her. It is said that she is the source for Zeus wisdom and that she still advises Zeus from his belly.

It may seem odd for Metis to have been pregnant with Athena but, never mentioned as her mother. This is because the classic Greeks believed that children were generated solely from the fathers sperm. The women was thought to be nothing more than a vessel for the fetus to grow in. Since Metis was killed well before Athena’s birth her role doesn’t count.

In a statement released by 20th Century Fox Studios, it said, “On Monday, January 25, ‘Avatar‘ officially passed ‘Titanic’ to become the highest grossing film in history at the worldwide box office.” It earned $1.859 billion, compared to the 1997 film Titanic with $1.843 billion. The spectacular and groundbreaking 3D blockbuster has raked in a total of $1.862 billion worldwide to date, according to Box Office Mojo. And they did it in just 41 days. The movie grossed $558 million domestically and $1.304 billion in its foreign release.

Fox said that 3D screenings have accounted for 72 percent or $1.35 billion of the total gross of Avatar. Meaning, the 3D’s domestic share is 80 percent or roughly 56 million admissions in domestic theater and its foreign share is 69 percent. That is about the same tickets that Titanic has sold at this point in its theatrical run. Titanic has been played and played on, and reached 128 million admissions. But today’s average ticket price is $7.46 from $4.69 when Titanic was shown. Although some would say that more people watched Titanic compared to Avatar, it still doesn’t diminish the fact that it broke the record.
