Zac Efron, tweenyboppers poster boy,  is back on the big screen. But this time, he won’t be singing and dancing in a basketball court, or on a talent show, or as an assistant of Orson Welles. On his upcoming fantasy romance film, Charlie St. Cloud, he finally graduated from school, but he won’t go back and be 17 again. In the movie, he can see ghosts but expect him saying, “I see dead people” like Haley Joel Osment on the thriller Sixth Sense.

Efron plays Charlie St. Cloud. He was once an accomplished sailor when he was in high school and even had a scholarship to go to Stanford. He lived with his adoring single mother Claire (played by Academy Award winner Kim Basinger and his beloved younger brother Sam (played by newcomer Charlie Tastan) in the Pacific Northwest. But things changed abruptly, and it his once perfect life to something he never saw coming. He and his brother were caught in a car accident. During the tragedy while reaching out for each other in thoughts that they were about to die, Charlie promised to his brother that he will never him. They were then rescued and Charlie was revived by the paramedic Florio Ferrente (Emmy winner Ray Liotta). But sadly, Sam wasn’t able to make it. Charlie was devastated by the death of his brother. But during the funeral, he ran away to the glade behind the cemetery and was shocked when he found Sam with a baseball glove, waiting to play with him as their nightly ritual. That was when he realized that he can see the ghost of his dead brother. From then on, he and his brother kept in touch everyday.

Fast track five years later, all his plans was then left behind and he is now a caretaker of the Seaside Cemetery, where his brother was buried. He was abandoned by his friends and family. And every night, he goes out to the clearing to play catch with the ghost of Sam. But as sunset comes, his brother vanishes again. Although Sam wants him to move on, Charlie could not get himself to because he feels that he is all that matters to him anymore.

Until one day, her high school classmate Tess Carroll (Amanda Crew) comes back to their hometown unexpectedly. They both share a passion for sailing, but unlike him, Tess went to chase her dreams. She is now ready to become the youngest skipper to travel around the world alone. But she has only one week to stay before she goes off to fulfill her ambition. He is now torn between keeping with the promise he made to his brother and moving on with his newfound love.

This is a reunion project for Efron and director Burr Steers. They worked together last year on the comedy 17 Again. The screenplay is written by Craig Pearce, who also wrote Romeo+Juliet and Moulin Rouge! The film will be shown in theaters on July 30, 2010. Who could forget the huge hit martial arts movie of the 80′s, The Karate Kid starring Pat Morita and Ralph Machhio? Columbia Pictures is once again bringing back the hit karate movie to the big screen and this time, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett’s son Jaden Smith will play the lead role Dre Parker with Jackie Chan himself to play the role of his Master. After all of his adventures, Shrek (Mike Myers) has become a domesticated family ogre. Instead of scaring villagers away as he used to, Shrek agrees to autograph pitchforks. Longing for the days when he felt like a “real ogre”, Shrek is tricked into signing a pact with the smooth-talking deal maker, Rumpelstiltskin (Walt Dohrn), who offers Shrek a day where everything will be as if his adventures had never happened. Shrek can’t resist the offer- all he wanted was a day off to relax, to be a real ogre again. However, to get a day off, Shrek needs to give up a day from his childhood. However, after signing the contract, Shrek soon discovers he has been tricked: the day that he unwittingly gave away was the day he was born.

Having never existed, Shrek finds himself in a twisted, alternate version of Far Far Away, where Rumpelstiltskin is now king (because King Harold and Queen Lillian were originally going to give him the kingdom in exchange for him ending Fiona’s curse, but refused after getting news that Shrek had rescued Fiona); ogres are hunted; Donkey (Eddie Murphy) has never met Shrek, is forced into cart-pulling duty and fears him; Gingy (Conrad Vernon) is a gladiator fighting animal crackers; Puss in Boots (Antonio Banderas) has become obese and lazy; and Fiona (Cameron Diaz) is still under her curse from the first movie (to become human by day and ogress by night until she receives “True Love’s Kiss”), can’t stand Shrek, and has become the leader of an underground resistance of other hunted ogres.

But even though all seems lost, there’s still hope – if Shrek shares “True Love’s Kiss” with Fiona by the sunrise of the next day, the contract he signed will be rendered null and void and the original timeline will be restored.
