‘Alice’ sets a 3-D record

A new record has been set by Tim Burton’s bizarre remake of the classic child’s tale “Alice In Wonderland”, as the movie debuts with a glistening $116.3 million in its 1st week in theaters making it the very first 3-D film to have drawn such a gigantic number of movie-goers in the history of the industry.

Alice In Wonderland even exceeded the sales of “Avatar”, another very popular 3-d flick which raked numerous academy awards to include best picture during the recently concluded Oscar Awards.

Many could not believe how Burton’s movie became such a big hit despite the rated PG (Parental Guidance) that the Government Classification Board has given it. In fact the movie was even able to out shine an award winning film like Avatar by a considerable percentage. The distribution president of Walt Disney, Mr. Chuck Viane described Alice in Wonderland’s huge success as a “cultural phenomenon that has caught the public’s interest.” Before the film’s actual showing, there were reviews and surveys concluding that the movie’s earnings would only range about $65-75 million dollars, but much to our surprise, those forecasts were totally pounded.

Whichever factor that gave ‘Alice’ a competitive edge amongst other potential block busters, may it be Anne Hathaway’s charm as the White Queen, Johnny Depp’s dark but stunning portrayal of the Mad Hatter or simply the menacing caterpillar that smokes, in conclusion, Alice In Wonderland is a runaway winner.
